Santa Clarita-Opoly!
We have so many versions of Monopoly. When the boys were little, we always played without the houses and hotels, just so they could learn the gist of the game. Now that they’re older…..it’s game on! Jeremy got Santa Clarita-Opoly right before we moved. It was in storage for a little while, and we decided on Easter to get it out and have some fun!
It was pretty fun to play a game that goes along with your hometown. Being a 3rd grade teacher, I taught Santa Clarita History for many years. I was a little surprised at some of the sites/places that were included, and the ones that were left off. But, I guess that’s just the teacher in me. Instead of houses and hotels, you buy blocks and the key to the city.
Since there were six of us playing, it was pretty hard to get a monopoly. My boys decided early on that they wanted to make things interesting. Justin and Jeremy wanted to trade some of their properties to make a monopoly. They added in some money to try and entice us. We all kept saying no, but Justin was pretty insistent. We both owned properties for the highest two sections of the board. I finally agreed to trade with him. He would own the final two properties (the most expensive), and I would own the three before those. He thought it was great because he was convinced his monopoly would make him rich. The only problem was nobody was landing on those spaces. They were, however, landing on my monopoly spaces. So I quickly bought up the blocks and ended up with a key to the city on all three properties. If anyone landed on one the spaces they owed me over $1200!
Grandma was the first out. She claimed it was because she had to work on dinner…….hmmmm. Then it was Justin and Jeremy, neither of whom was very happy. There may have been some pushing of the board as they got up to leave the table. Joey lasted a while longer, and it finished with Jonathan and me. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I can be a little on the competitive side….and my boys got to experience that first hand. Jonathan got taken down, leaving me to own all of Santa Clarita.
It was a lot of fun! 🙂
They did calm down soon after, and we got back to discussing who in the world had the final say for which landmarks made it on the board!
